Religious Education 2020-2021

Update October 8, 2020 - please read

Hello families,

Religious education at St. Margaret's is underway!  If you have not yet registered your children, please email me at  I will be happy to assist you.

For students in grades 1-6, we will be implementing a Family Formation program.  Our overarching topic for the year is the Mass.  Weekly lessons will be done at home and will involve 30-60 minutes of prayer, reading and discussion with your child or children.  At the end of each section, there will be a brief quiz to be completed online by your child and submitted electronically to me.  (You will need to download a QR reader for your phone to access the quizzes.  These are free and easy to download.)  Students will meet monthly with catechists (in person or via Zoom) to discuss upcoming lesson topics, and parents will meet monthly with me via Zoom for discussions, tips and tricks for the discussions with the children.

As in previous years, grades 7 and 8 will be using Gospel Weeklies, completing lessons online and participating in Zoom discussions about what they have learned.  We will be using the Gospel Weeklies in digital format.  Students can sign up for Zoom meetings that are taking place on alternating Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 or meetings on alternating Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00.

We will continue to use Dynamic Catholic's DecisionPoint as our main program for Confirmation preparation.  For at least the first half of the year, students will be completing this program independently and participating in Zoom discussions after each lesson.  I am hoping in the second half of the year to return to some of the in person activities we have traditionally completed, including the joint Reconciliation service and the grade 10 retreat.  I will keep families updated as the situation evolves.

One thing that is certain is that we will need lots of assistance from families to carry out the task of helping the children learn and grow in their faith.  As they say, "teamwork makes the dream work."  We will need in person and Zoom catechists, Zoom observers, hall monitors, Confirmation and First Communion help, and other tasks may arise as well.  I appreciate any assistance you are able to give.

Thank you, and God bless you all.
